Dr. Barton-Maclaren joined the Existing Substances Risk Assessment Bureau (ESRAB) in 2007 following the completion of her PhD in Reproductive Toxicology from McGill University. As Research Manager of the Emerging Approaches Unit, Dr. Barton-Maclaren currently serves as the focal point for the development of approaches and strategies integrating emerging data and novel methodologies for the assessment of chemicals existing in the Canadian marketplace. In support of the global transition to 21st Century Toxicology and towards the goal of risk assessment modernization for the future chemicals assessment program in Canada, she contributes to initiatives under the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) promoting international alignment and engages in various scientific collaborations with thought leaders both nationally and internationally in the areas of computational toxicology, Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATA) and New Approach Methodologies (NAM) to accelerate the acceptance and implementation of advances in science to support regulatory decision-making. Interests focus on translational research bridging innovations in modern toxicology research and human health risk assessment for the protection of Canadians against the risks posed by chemicals.
